Epistemic Justice
Epistemic justice focuses on who has the power to produce and validate knowledge. In public health, dominant narratives often erase or marginalize Black experiences, leading to policies and interventions that fail to address community needs. Our lab critically examines how racialized knowledge production shapes public health research, policy, and practice. We challenge epistemic oppression by centering Black epistemologies, amplifying community expertise, and advocating for participatory research methods that shift power dynamics. By prioritizing epistemic justice, we aim to transform public health into a field that values and incorporates diverse ways of knowing, ultimately advancing equity and justice in health research and policymaking.
